Moving & Handling of People
Comprehensive training for staff who move and handle people in their day-to-day roles, covering safe techniques, risk assessment, and the use of handling equipment. We offer both a full day introductory Standard Course and a half day Update Course (Refresher).
Course Details
Standard Course
Level: Introductory
Duration: Full day
Class size: 3–12 delegates
Target Audience: Hospital and care workers, care home staff, community care workers, NHS staff
Note: Course notes are provided to delegates prior to the course.
Refresher Course
Level: Refresher
Duration: Half day
Class size: 3–8 delegates
Target Audience: Staff who have previously completed people handling training and require an update
Note: Detailed course notes are provided prior to the course to enable delegates to come prepared.
Aims & Objectives
Standard Course

- Work-related musculoskeletal disorders statistics
- Legislation and manual handling policy
- Care of your back
- Risk assessment, ergonomics and manual handling principles
- How not to move people / managing falling and fallen people
Practical Session
- Chair manoeuvres
- Bed manoeuvres
- Small equipment demonstration
- Hoisting
- Use of other equipment
- Practical problem solving forum
- Conclusion and course appraisal
Refresher Course
Theoretical Overview

- Review of legislation and organisational policy
- Review of back care
- Review of risk assessment and ergonomics
- Review of manual handling principles including how not to move people, and management of falling and fallen people

- Bed manoeuvres

- Problem solving forum
