Target Audience: All staff required to lift, carry, push or pull objects in the workplace
Aims & Objectives
- To give delegates a good understanding of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations and associated legislation in the workplace
- For employees to apply good manual handling techniques within the workplace and in their everyday lives
Course Content
Theoretical Overview
- Statistics on musculoskeletal disorders
- Legislation and organisational policy
- Back care — structure of the spine and injury prevention
- Risk assessment and ergonomics
- Manual handling principles for the moving and handling of inanimate loads
Practical Session
A practical session covering detailed techniques relevant to the workplace, including where appropriate the use of trolleys, sack trucks, barrows and other mechanical aids relevant to participants' area of work.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, delegates will:
- Have knowledge of manual handling legislation in the workplace
- Be aware of the structure of the back and important considerations concerning back care
- Be confident in carrying out basic manual handling risk assessments
- Have participated in practical techniques for the moving and handling of inanimate loads
