Synopsis
This is an intermediate level, 1 day Moving & Handling Of Children For Therapy (Refresher) course.The aim is to refresh staff knowledge and practical skills in the safe handling of children in a rehabilitation setting.

Learning Objectives
- Acquire information on changes in the law, local arrangement on manual handling of children, risk assessment and professional guidance
- Have participated in a practical peer review of a relevant selection of children handling techniques used in rehabilitation
- Have renewed their knowledge and skills in the safe use of a selection of children handling equipment and techniques relevant to rehabilitation handling

- Unsafe handling techniques
- Principles of safe rehab handling of children
- Practical moving & handling techniques
- Moving children in bed
- Use of slide sheets
- Hoisting techniques
- Management of the fallen child
- Management of falling Children
Assisting children in a chair; to stand/standing frames; to walk/wheeled stools
- Seated transfers- bed, chair, wheelchair
- Using small manual handling aids
- Managing children with multiple disabilities including learning difficulties
- Problem solving/ questions & answer
- Course appraisal
*Delegates will be asked at the beginning of each course to provide information on their work activities. The practical aspect of the course will then be tailored to the specific needs of each group. Therefore, certain techniques in the above list may be given more or less emphasis during a particular course.
