Pain caused by mattress

Bed and Back Pain

Did you know that bed and back pain often go go together? Did you know that we spend a third of our life on our beds? 26 years sleeping and 7 years trying to get to sleep. In total that is a massive 12,045 days!1

So, you would think that if we are spending so much time on our bed, we would like to be comfortable?  This however is not always the case.  Back pain, especially lumbar pain, is one of the common reasons for missing work. Sleeping on the wrong kind of mattress can worsen or cause back pain.2 Back pain can come on suddenly, be very worrying and lead to stress. You may have no idea how this pain came about; you may think about things you have done recently and if you have done these things any differently. The thing is it could be down to your mattress!

What to look for when purchasing a mattress to avoid bed and back pain.

Pain caused by mattressWhen buying a mattress from a store it can be very difficult to decide which is the best mattress to get.  Often, we tend to look at what is within our budget. I’m not saying this is a bad thing but like anything we can buy suitable products that are expensive through to budget price. The thing to remember is you are going to be lying in your bed on this mattress for quite a few years. Therefore the mattress must be  right one for your needs. When trying out beds in a shop we only lie on them for a very short time, this is not realistic, however there are companies now who will let you have the mattress on a 30- day trial.

Choose your new mattress wisely, try out as many mattresses as you can, return to the shop and try them a second time if possible, don’t be pressurised in to buying a mattress that you are not comfortable with which may lead to back pain in the future.

Remember you are investing in your back health.
